Frequently asked questions
A few useful answers before your first expedition.
Do I need an account to try the game?
The local sandbox does not require an account. A live game server may require authentication. You can sign in or register through the account panel on the overview page.
Where is my sandbox progress saved?
The sandbox saves progress in local storage in your current browser when storage is available. Clearing site data removes that save. The game status bar indicates whether progress is saved or is limited to the current session.
How do I pause or advance the game?
In the local sandbox, press Space or use the pause button in the bottom status bar. The adjacent advance button runs one tick. In live mode, the server controls ticks.
Why can’t I colonize a system?
Survey the system first, then move a colony ship into it. The system must have no existing colony or foreign owner, and it needs a sufficiently habitable world. You also need energy, minerals, and influence to establish the colony.
Why can’t my fleet reach another system?
Fleets travel through connected hyperlanes. Hostile factions and closed foreign borders can block a route. A friendly open-borders agreement can make more systems accessible.
Are the rankings live?
Server-wide player rankings are not currently available in this client. The rankings page includes a clearly labeled reference to the sandbox’s starting factions.
Can I connect my own game server?
Yes. Open the connection menu in the game header and provide a compatible game API base URL. A realtime WebSocket URL is optional; REST polling is available when it is omitted.
